WHERE
is the Key Peninsula Located?
The Key Peninsula (population = 15,000) is located in the northwest corner of Pierce County
at the southern end of Puget Sound and on the western side of Washington State in the USA

 

 BOUNDARIES

Shaped like a key, the peninsula is designated by the following borders.
  • From the northwest corner of Pierce County, bordering Kitsap and Mason Counties, trace south following the county line (between Pierce and Mason).
  • Continue southward down the center of Case Inlet, then turn northward through the centers of Drayton and Pitt Passage (including Pitt Island) and up the center of Carr Inlet.
  • At the head of the inlet (Henderson Bay), pass under the Purdy Bridge and through Burley Lagoon to the county line.
  • Then trace west following the county line (between Pierce and Kitsap) to return to the north west corner starting point.

 

DRIVING DIRECTIONS

Key Center is approximately 30 minutes by car (depending on bridge traffic) from Tacoma. Follow these directions to reach Key Center....

  • Take Exit #132 from the I-5 freeway and follow Highway 16 around Tacoma
  • Cross the Tacoma Narrows Bridge and continue past Gig Harbor on Hwy 16
  • Exit (before mile 16) to Purdy, Key Center, and Shelton on Highway #302
  • In Purdy, go left at the lights and over the Purdy Bridge by Burley Lagoon
  • After 5 miles (8 km), do NOT turn right on Hwy #302; instead, continue straight ahead on the Key Peninsula Highway for another 3 miles (5 km) to arrive in Key Center
